STATEMENT OF BELIEF
The First Presbyterian Church of Greenlawn is a Christ-centered community whose place of worship is located on the North Shore of Long Island. As such, it is an active member of the Long Island Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
Since 1872 Greenlawn Presbyterian has established itself as a Bible-believing congregation committed to Christ's message to the world. Over 128 years we, as a congregation, have welcomed into membership everyone with the same commitment to Jesus Christ, regardless of their origin.
Although we've experienced differences of opinion throughout the century, the congregation has remained a confessional church, strongly convicted of our faith as expressed through the Apostle's Creed.
Following are the tenets of our theology:
1. We believe in our ever-present Creator, God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
2. We believe the Bible is now, as it always has been, the inspired word of God, containing His infallible laws and directions
of faith, life and order.
3. We believe in God's creation of man and man's fall into sin through disobedience.
4. We believe in God's only son, Jesus Christ, and that the only path to salvation is through repentance and acceptance of Him as our Savior and Lord.
5. We believe that through repentance of sin and faith in the resurrected Christ we experience regeneration, justification and adoption into God's universal family, the Church.
6. We believe in the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ, His substitutionary death on the cross, His bodily resurrection from the dead and His ascension into Heaven
7. We believe in the forgiveness of sin through Christ's death on the cross and through personal confession to God.
8. We believe in our resurrection after mortal death and in continued life everlasting.
9. We believe that Christ is our intercessor before God the Father, and that, in God's time, Christ the Son shall return to earth to judge and rule.
10. We believe in the Holy Spirit as the Third Person of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit, resident in those who are believers, empowers us to grow and enrich the world around us with the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and
lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge him and
He will direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
